Shield of Faith Baptist Church

Vision and Mission

The purpose of Shield of Faith Church is to fulfill our commission as a body of baptized believers upon the Lord Jesus Christ, which we will accomplish through our God given vision,

Vision: Manifesting the REAL LOVE of God to transform lives for Christ.

Mission

~ Discover ~ Develop ~ Deploy ~

  • We are a church, where people can discover the love of God and enter into an ever-increasing relationship with him.
  • We are a church, where members can develop their relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ and prepare for the ongoing work of ministry.
  • We are a church, where we deploy disciples into their destined mission field to continue manifesting the REAL LOVE of God.

We are living life on purpose, as we pursue our destiny.

REAL LOVE?

This acrostic describes what we value and what our calling is as a body of Christ.

L – Learning to live the abundant life.
O – Operating in obedience to the Word.
V – Victoriously pursuing the purposes of Jesus Christ.
E – Educate and Equip the saints to minister to the nations.

“…if anyone obeys his word, God’s love is truly made complete in him.”

1 John 2:5 (NIV)

 R – Relevant Word.

We believe that the word of God must be presented in a real and relevant fashion, addressing the issues and circumstances of life people find themselves in. The unbeliever unto salvation, and the believer in sanctification and unto glorification.

  • “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God… that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17
  • “This is my comfort in my affliction, for Your word has given me life.” Psalm 119:50
  • “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” Psalm 119:105

E – Evangelistically Driven and Focused.

We believe that our center of interest and activity as a church is the message of saving faith in Jesus Christ. Therefore, our focus is one of preaching the full gospel and making disciples of all nations.

  • “… woe is me if I do not preach the gospel!” 1 Corinthians 9:16
  • “… Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations…” Matthew 28:18-20
  • … always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you…” 1 Peter 3:15

A – Atmosphere of Repentance and Prayer.

We believe the prevailing attitude, standard, and environmental condition of this church would foster repentance and prayer. True repentance is turning to God and away from all else. Focused prayer changes lives.

  • “My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations.” Isaiah 56:7
  • “Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” James 5:16
  • “For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation…” 2 Corinthians 7:10
  • “Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance” Matthew 3:8

L – Loving and Forgiving.

We believe that because of God extending his grace and mercy to us, we in turn should be a loving and forgiving people.

  • “The stranger who dwells among you shall be to you as one born among you, and you shall love him as yourself…” Leviticus 19:34
  • “Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.” 1 John 4:11
  • “And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses.” Mark 11:25
  • “… If your brother sins against you, rebuke him; and if he repents, forgive him.” Luke 17:3

L – Learning to live the abundant life.

We believe that the believer must grow spiritually to have Godly peace in this life.

  • “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” John 10:10
  • “… Give me understanding, that I may learn Your commandments.” Psalm 119:73
  • “The heart of the wise teaches his mouth, And adds learning to his lips.” Proverbs 16:23
  • “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me… and you will find rest for your souls.” Matthew 11:29
  • “The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.” Philippians 4:9

O – Operating in obedience to the Word.

We believe that true faith is obedience to the word of God.

  • “Oh come, let us sing to the LORD! Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation.” Psalm 95:1
  • “26 but now made manifest, and by the prophetic Scriptures made known to all nations, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, for obedience to the faith— 27 to God, alone wise, be glory through Jesus Christ forever. Amen.” Romans 16:26-27
  • So also faith, if it does not have works (deeds and actions of obedience to back it up), by itself is destitute of power (inoperative, dead).” James 2:17
  • “… Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice…” 1 Samuel 15:22

V – Victoriously pursuing the purposes of Jesus Christ.

We believe that the believer is called to walk in victory.

  • “But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Corinthians 15:57
  • “For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.” 1 John 5:4
  • “…Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.” Mark 8:34
  • “Then the word of God spread, and the number of the disciples multiplied greatly in Jerusalem, and a great many of the priests were obedient to the faith.” Acts 6:7

E – Educate and Equip the saints to minister to the nations.

We believe Christ-Centered biblical teaching is necessary to equip the saints for ministry.

  • 11 And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, 12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ”  Ephesians 4:11-12
  • 16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God… that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17
  • 18 Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, 19 that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation.
20 Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God.” 2 Corinthians 5:18-20
